Configure document numbering
Set up document number for consistent choices in related workflows.
Menus and actions depend on your company's settings and your access. If something is missing, ask your company administrator.
Before you begin #
Use an account authorized to manage this master. Search for an existing record before adding a duplicate.
Step by step #
- Open Document Number.
- Search for the existing value, then choose Add or Edit as appropriate.
- Review module, prefix, suffix, separator, starting/current number and status.
- Complete required fields and save.
- Reopen the record and check its display in the related selector.
Understand the fields #
- Key details: module, prefix, suffix, separator, starting/current number and status.
- Used by: Number generation for the selected module.
- Active/default choices: change only when appropriate for current workflows.
Check the result #
Verify both the saved master and its use in number generation for the selected module.
If something goes wrong #
If it is missing from a dropdown, check the parent/context, status and permissions. Changing a master may affect future selections; do not assume it rewrites historical documents.
On mobile #
Open the same module from the app menu. Use the record card or its actions menu. Scroll through the form before saving so that required fields and validation messages are not missed. Your permissions still apply.
